Antique Wedding Dress

I wanted to use this dress antique wedding dress which was given to me by a very generous client. The dress is a very small size and I needed someone tiny enough wear it.
Emily was the perfect size. I loved the photos we were able to get during this session. I guess you could say I am going through an old fashioned nostalgic phase, but I am having so much fun.

Is this cute or what! During one of my photo sessions, this little girl came along with her mom to accompany my client. After my client’s session I asked if I could take some photos of this cute little girl in a Red Riding Hood outfit. This one of the photos. I love it! How Important is it to you to capture Your Special Moments?

A letter on my door step. portraits are more than paper.

There will be no portrait photos in this post. This letter wasn’t mailed – it was at my doorstep when I got home a couple months ago. I read it, I cried, and read it again – probably a hundred times by now. It wasn’t easy to read – and honestly, as much as it validates what I do for a living – I wasn’t sure I was going to share it either. If you choose to read through the letter, you will know why I’ve finally chosen to share it.

Jeanine –

Today I am writing for a couple of reasons. I have some quiet time at the moment and need to get a couple of things off my mind. I will leave this for my husband to deliver to you when he is ready.

You photographed my wedding, you photographed my first pregnancy and my first baby. I contacted you awhile back to photograph my 2nd child and family. After getting prices and realizing I would want all of the pictures as we love your work – I decided against spending $500+ – which is what I normally spend for portraits and prints with you.. Please know it is not because I don’t value your amazing eye, or how much we love the experience.

That week that I decided to NOT do a session with you, this is how I spent some money.

On Sunday I called and cancelled our session. Monday I went out and got my hair cut ($39+tip), and colored ($65), Thursday I had my nails done ($24), my family went out to dinner at a somewhat expensive restaurant for no particular reason costing us $79 + tip. This was just 4 days since canceling our session, already totaling over $200 for un necessary things. My nails only lasted about 2 weeks, my hair is gone, and seven weeks passed when I got the phone call from our doctor. It was not something I expected and the cancer has spread very quickly. I will be leaving my husband, my 6 year old girl and my now 2 year old – not by choice. It is very hard for me to talk about it which is why I need to write you.

I watch your Facebook page and your posts about the value of a photo and if I could give back all of those things that I purchased this few weeks after I cancelled my session with you, knowing what I know now, and have that session, well… I would do it in a heartbeat.

Now my time is done and there are no more chances for me. The next time someone cancels a session – my wish is that you forward this letter to them. Time is fragile, it is gone before you know you had it. If you charged $200 for one print it wouldn’t be enough for what it is actually worth. I cringe to think that my priorities were a manicure over a memory to pass onto my babies and husband.

My love and thanks for what you have given us from past photos. I am so sorry that I did not see it as more than paper until now.

Vacation to Ross Lake in the North Cascades

I am so behind posting because I have been so busy. I did take a vacation in September and we went to Ross Lake resort located in the North Cascades. Wow, what an adventure. The resort is located in a very beautiful peaceful area right on the lake. It is so remote that you can not get there by car. It actually takes a boat ride, a truck ride then another boat ride to get there which thankfully the resort provides. We had a wonderful time and we met some great people staying at the resort as well. We did not realize how lucky we were to get a reservation because most people return every year and make reservations a year ahead.

Jaimie’s Maternity Session by Bonney Lake Photographer

Jamie is one of my favorite client’s. I have photographed her family and beautiful little girl Jailyn at 3 months and 1 year. You may remember seeing one of Jailyn’s photos of her standing in her daddy’s army boots. Jamie is now expecting her second child(boy) and wanted to get maternity photos taken. I am so glad she asked me to photograph this special time in her life and I will also be photographing her newborn baby boy which is due in November.
Jailyn was more interested in exploring then having her picture taken so I only got a few with her, but the we still got some great photos during the session.

I got an opportunity to photograph three boys. Two were brothers and the other boy was their cousin. I wanted to do a nostalgic fishing theme and a baseball theme. I started with the fishing theme and got them all excited to walk down the lane with their fishing gear but, afterward I felt bad because they were so disappointed when they realized they really weren’t going fishing. That will teach me. Anyway, the boys were great and we did get some wonderful photos.

Emily’s Vintage Session

Emily is a lovely young girl interested in becoming a model. She approached me at a local event asking if I am ever in need of a model. I have had an idea to do a vintage session using a beautiful antique dress given me by a past client which I thought she would perfect. This dress is extremely small but it happened to just fit her. Emily was very easy to work with and did a great job modeling. Check out some of the images from that session.

Fine Art Maternity Session for Leana

Leana was interested in having a maternity session but wanted her images to be fine art. She was excited to be expecting her first girl after having three boys. I always feel privileged to photograph this special time in woman’s life. I think Leana looks beautiful.
